ABOUT OUR INDUSTRY
Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical cosmetic
procedures including treatment for unwanted hair, facial and leg veins, age
spots, freckles, skin firming, and smoothing fine lines on the face.
Hair removal has been a problem for ages. One of the more common ways to get rid of unwanted hair is, of course, to shave it. But shaving is messy, time-
consuming, and can have a negative connotation with many women, especially if it involves removing hair from the face. Men also resort to shaving their unwanted hair and have to deal with the almost daily time-consuming routine.
Other methods for hair removal, such as waxing and creams, can be painful or
cause allergic reactions in some people. They are also not cost effective
over time. Only lasers can offer permanent hair reduction of 75-90% over a
series of treatments.
The laser works by producing a wavelength of light that can be absorbed by its target, whether it's an unwanted hair, vein, or pigment in the skin. This
means the laser's energy is selective. It passes through the upper layers of
skin with only slight absorption, but once it reaches it's target, such as a
hair follicle, it is more thoroughly absorbed.
The energy of the laser produces heat so some currently available lasers
(from the Candela Corporation) have cooling devices that apply a spray of
cryogen milliseconds before the laser emits its energy. This protects the
skin and allows the laser light to penetrate its target, for example, the
melanin pigment around the hair shaft. This cooling spray provides clients
comfort during the treatment.
Here at True Laser, we only use Candela lasers. We offer the GentleLase and
the GentleYAG providing our clientele a wide range of treatment options.
Please visit the Candela website for more information on their laser
technology.
